Harbour Upgrading & Expansion

Project Type: Planning, detailed design and construction supervision of expansion and upgrading of fishing harbour

Client: Public Works Canada


The harbour facilities in Deep Bay comprise of a pier head connected to a shore by a timber access trestle, a system of mooring floats and a small office building. As part of Small Craft Harbours Branch's ongoing evaluation and modernization of harbour facilities in British Columbia, VJA was retained by Public Works Canada to prepare short and long term development plans for Deep Bay and to carry out the detailed design and construction supervision of the selected upgrading and expansion scheme.

Prime features of the work included dredging and expansion of the pier head to provide three deep water berths, relocation of the mooring floats to ensure deep water navigable access to the pier, construction of a habitat compensation marsh area and a foreshore development to provide additional parking area.
